The Approach to learning and development

The training and development sessions is mainly experimenal.
Pre-lesson field-work assignments are given on signing up for the sessions. These assignments may be handled by the participants in their own time. The only requirement is that the assignment is done in full before the participant attends the relevant topic in the session. The assignments raise issues which participants need to be aware of even though they may be new to the working environment. Participants will be prompted to check out what happens in real youth working situations and to gather evidence of challenges and opportunities that lie in the youth -work-place. These assignments are key in the understanding of the concepts discussed in class.

  • Use of real life case studies, examples and scenarios.
  • Role-plays and feedback.
  • Video clips relevant to the topic and our youth - work - situation.
  • Ample time to handle questions and answers especially arising from the youth field-work assignments.
  • There are no notes given. Each participant may, if they wish, they may write own notes.

  Monitoring and evaluation

This is conducted at the end of each session so as to ensure:

  • That there is sustained learning and that talks continue to hold meaning.
  • That the team gets each persons’ commitment to change in specified areas.
